The Batman

This is a piece I made because the one i had seen by master sculpture Andy Bergholtz, was not commercially available.

Its not an identical representation, its half the size for a start! But I'm happy with it.

I Forgot to take loads of work in progress pictures, but next time i will!

I do feel though it should be part of a pair...

The Joker

As I said above, The Batman needed to be part of a pair, and there needed to be Work in progress Pics, so here they are...

I choose to use Heath Ledger's Joker, although not a direct opposite to the Batman

Using a Piece of thread bar bolted to an MDF base, kitchen foil is wrapped around to form a basic bust shape...

Then its fleshed out using basic 'Sculpey', which is keyed ready for further applications of clay...

The piece is then oven baked for 15 - 20 mins, then left to cool...

I then started to detail up the face and bulk up the torso...after coming back to the piece later, i decided the angle of the head wasn't quite right...

But cutting the head off lead to all sorts of complications, see the extra 'Scars' on his face!

The next stage was the jacket detail, relatively easy compared to the face, but challenging none the less...It was baked again to protect the piece while the hair was tackled...

The hair was a detail I had not been looking forward to...

But after a couple of different approaches to the sculpting style, I believe a succesful head of hair has been achieved...

The major styling of the jokers face and hair will be in the painting...

Finally nearly 18 months after it was started, I have painted it.

I used a 2 pack primer to seal the clay, and left to cure overnight.

Colour was added using Citatel Acrylic paints and washes.
